ASCII Conversion

I am reading in a 12 digit ASCII string from a barcode scanner to CH0 of a Controllogix. I need to convert every pair of digits in this 12 character string to HEX and then add them together. The string consists of letters and numbers (which rules out the STOD instruction). Is there a quick way to convert the ASCII data in to HEX, add the HEX values, and send the orginial ASCII string with 4 appended HEX values (the result of the addition, could be letters and/or numbers) back out CH0?

MVI56-HART

I'm trying to use the MVI56-HART module from Prosoft on a Controllogix L62. Prosofts example works OK with one HART device connected to channel 1 but I'm unable to get multiple devices to communicate (multi-poll). For instance HART ID 1 talks fine but HART ID 2's data is no where to be found even though the Clgx slave status register shows it ON POLL and without error. If I switch the HART ID's on the devices, I still only get HART ID 1's data. I sent the ACD and Prosofts configuration file to Prosoft and their response was that it was the PLC programming. Kinda a funny response since I used their example program. If anyone has any expertise implimenting multi-device/multi-channel HART using this module I'd appreciate picking your brain. There may some cash in it too. Thank you in advance. mailto:rnixon@controllink.com

1734 VSHC24/C with a single encoder. Help Required?

I am using a Studio 5000 V29 to program a 1769-L18ER-BB1B PLC, part of the program involves feedback from an encoder which is connected to a 1734 VHSC24/C point I/O card.

I've download to the PLC configured the I/O and updated firmware and EDS files, the PLC is running without any errors and the VHSC card has two green light lit .

But when I look in the Controller Tags for the project none of the registers for the VHSC card are change when the encoder is rotating.

I have never use this point I/O card before so have no experience configuring and coding , Do I have to use the GET command to retrieve #101?

SLC 500 analog output voltage setup

Hi, everyone.  I hope your experts can help me on this.  I have a SLC 500 with 5/03, 1746-IB16 and 1746-NO4V.

I like to use a switch to input in 1746-IB16 channel 1.  Once that switch is on, I want 1746-NO4V channel 1 outputs

a voltage say 2.5 V.  I can modify the OUTPUT File to output that voltage, but not safe for running the program.

Is it possible to use a digital input to generate a voltage output from an analog output module?  If that is possible,

what kind of function I have to use in the program?  Thanks a lot.

Connecting using Ethernet

About a month ago, I connected to a micrologix 1000 using Ethernet.  I have my IP address written down so I don't forget it.  I changed my IP address to meet what I needed, and made sure in RSLinx that I have my communication driver set for EtherNet/IP Driver.  But when I connected to the plc, it wouldn't find it.  I can't remember how I had it set up to talk to the PLC.  Any help is appreciated.

I'm having problems with some explicit messages between the 1100 and the power flex 525, the message that send the commands to the 525 has the error code e6 and according to what I read the error describes Target node cannot respond because requested function is not available.

Thank you for your help.

Using the Same AOI input parameter in multiple places (coils)?

I'm writing an AOI to handle some logic to control a clamping cylinder.  The extend and return commands can come from several different places within the PLC program as well as from the robot in the work cell.

My original idea was just to set the extend and return input parameters as DINT's then address all of the coils as EXTEND_CLAMP.0, etc.  That works just fine, but it isn't as clean as just being able to use Clamp_Control.Extend in all of the coils.  I know Logix will return a duplicate coil warning if I simply use the AOI parameter over and over again, but will it prevent the OTE's from operating?

What is the best practice for something like this?  AOIs and function blocks are relatively new to me.  I was always taught to avoid duplicate coils in straight ladder program; but function blocks throw a different wrench into the works.

What else is there besides Allen Bradley??

I have been a faithful user of Allen Bradley products for over 20 years. My distributor has been good to me over the years with very good pricing. I have been good to him as well with lots of orders. That might change in the near future. My pricing is not what it used to be. I know that prices continue to rise but my discount structure has changed drastically

I am curious about what else is out there. I primarily live in the Micrologix PLC world. I also use the Kinetix 300 family of servo drives, the MPL series servo motors, the Powerflex family of VFD's, and 800T push buttons and switches.

What do the rest of you use?  Why do you use it?  How difficult is the migration for someone that has used AB their entire career?

Thanks for your input,

Chuck

Wiping Consumed Tags RSLogix5k

Good Evening,

Plant Configuration:

Micrologix1100 (Filler) / CompactLogix L43 (Cooler) / CompactLogix L35E (Packaging) under the same network.

Mission:

Filler need to comunicate with the Filler and the Packaging using the MESSAGE protocol (DONE)

Cooler and Packaging need to communicate eachother using the PRODUCER/CONSUMER Protocol (DONE)

Question:

I tryied to perform a physical connection failure for see how P/C and MESSAGE protocols set variables after the failure. And I noticed that they keep the last state. For the MESSAGE protocol i used a wiping timer that every 200ms set the INT sent by the Filler to 0 and it works. But for Cooler and Packaging I'm trying to do things in a better way because they exchange bigger User Data Types. Is it good to COP an empty DataType in the consumed tag every X ms, or there is a better way to wipe the tag in case of disconnection?

Thanks in advice,

Teo.

ML1100 as Modbus Master reading floating points data

$

Hi fellas... Thanks to Ken Moore, Bob Foot and Shanen here, I managed to communicate a ML1100 as Modbus master to read in data from energy-meters, which store parameters like KwH, KVAR, etc in their registers as a pair of 16-bit integers, so that a SCADA client could poll them as real numbers with decimal points. As many of you all know, the way one reads a real number stored at the register pair %MW90-MW91, would be to read the data as a Modbus item "40092 F". For example, in Excel one would have to write <=MODBUS|Topic_name! 400092 F> the F being the specifier for floating point data. To my chagrin I found that ML1100 does not read in floating point numbers. The registers in the energy meters are all 2 consecutive 16 bit integers. How does one go about displaying these register pairs as floating point numbers in Excel??. I would really, really appreciate anybody helping me out with this. There has to be a way around. Regards, best wishes Raj S. Iyer
