Hello Friends

I need to share some bits between a PLC 5/30 and a 5/04 CPU through DH+.

Is it possible? How can I do that? With MSG instruction?

Thanks a lot.

OTL with no OTU

Looking through the ladder logic on my program and came across an OTL instruction, and when I cross reference it, there's no OTU. Is this normal? It was my understanding any OTL instruction must have an OTU associated with it.

Saving to CF Card

I have about 8 plcs I maintain at our sewer plant. They are all compactlogix 1769-L32s. I have bought AB CF cards for each PLC. The reason I bought the cards is to restore the program to each plc in the event of memory failure due to glitch or battery failure. My boss would rather do it this way instead of using software. (I have RSLogix 5000.) I have a few questions for you members. Once the program is stored, he wants the CF cards removed and stored in a safe place. 1) Is only the program lost on memory failure and not the firmware? or both? I alaways thought the firmware was non-volatile. 2) I am confused by the Firmware Update checkbox. Not explained very well. Should I check this box, Is it really needed, and what is the proper procedure. Thanks, Eric

Micrologix 1400 Run mode

Greetings all, I am not a programmer but I recently started a job working on some equipment that is utilizing a Micrologix 1400 PLC. The problem I have is that everytime the equipment is powered down then back up the PLC starts up in Program mode instead of Run mode and I have to change to Run mode using the keypad. The programmer and everyone else I have talked to says that this PLC should just Start up in which ever mode it was in when it was powered down but this is not happening. I have a feeling that it is something that the programmer is doing wrong because I have four systems that all do the same thing. Can someone help? What must be done to ensure that the PLC will Start-up in "Run" mode everytime. Thanks

Restore PLC communication to Panelview

I had communication working between panelview and PLC by changing the IP of the panelview to same network as PLC.

A maintenance tech removed the IO module with the machine running and we have now lost communication.

It gets stuck now loading the RsLogix symbols.

After 5 min. It lets me continue, but I see ? Instalead of sensor values.

when I go to terminal settings on panelview and set to dhcp, it loads the RsLogix symbols and the program, but I still get the ? Marks instead of values..

i also noticed the IO led on PLC is now off and am pretty sure it was on when all was working..

any advice?? Thanks for your time

Best Practices (Standard Operating Procedures) CompactLogix & PanelView

We've purchased an Autoclave at auction with CompactLogix L32e and PanelView Plus 1000.  With the help of some forum members and a local engineering company we have the machine finally working!

I'm looking for some advise as to how to train users for standerd operation.  For example:  Their is a toggle switch on the front which powers on everything (PanelView, processer, switch, etc).  We close at 5pm each night.. Should we Power down the machine each night, or leave it on? Another user mentioned a battery and I was a bit confused with the manual. With the machine off, Is the PLC only holding the program because of the battery??

I have backups of the following.. (.acd, .apa, .mer) files.  I also have created a Disc Image of the Internal Flash card on the PanelView.  Is their anything else I should have a backup of?

Their is a CF card in the PLC.  It has a folder called "Logix" and one called "System Volume Information"  In the Logix folder is  a CurrentApp folder with a .bin and .p5k file.  Does anyone know what exactly these are doing??

Any other advise is greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much for your time.

Hi, i am using L61 & 1756-HSC to count impulses. I think that i have some wiring problem because of none of module LED in 1756-HSC are ON. According to manual: 1756-um007_-en-p.pdf "INPUT (A,B,Z) - OFF - Input turned off/Input not currently used/Wire disconnected" [page 85/128 pdf] I use Encoder x1 MODE [page 20/128 pdf]. In module configuration i always set "Encoder x1" in both counters setup. I try that wiring: WIRING OPTION A pin 4 & 6 shorted pin 3 & 5 shorted pin 10 & 12 shorted pin 9 & 11 shorted pin 30 - ground pin 16 - analogue signal #1 pin 15 - analogue singal #2 WIRING OPTION B pin 30 - ground pin 16 - analogue signal #1 pin 10 - analogue singal #2 None of this are not working. Thanks for any advice. Suseh. 1756-um007_-en-p.pdf

Micro800 Ethernet comms to Control Techniques (Nidac) Drive

Hi all. My experience is using Studio5000 / RSLogix5000 to program CompactLogix PLC's. I need to use a basic (cheap) PLC to get data from a Control Techniques Drive (about 9 DINT's for Speed, Torque, etc) and then display on a PanelView Plus 600. Its a bit extravagant to use even a basic CompactLogix for this, so I believe the most basic AB solution I can go for is the Micro820.

In Studio5000, to add in CT Drive comms, I simply just add a Generic Ethernet Module and setup the IP address of the CT Drive and the Connection Parameters and that is pretty much it. I look in the Controller Tags and there is my DINT array that I can interrogate for the information. Very simple.

Anybody any clue how to replicate this in Connected Components Workbench for the Micro820? I cant seem to fathom it out at all?

Just to clarify, I am not doing any control of the Drive from the HMI or Micro820, merely displaying on the HMI parameters like speed, Torque, etc.

Thanks.

1756-RM Series B "PRI" LED Indication

Hi,

I have encountered an unexpected "PRI" LED indication of 1756-RM Series B module. When the affected redundancy module is set to primary, the status of the "PRI" LED indicator is blinking red. On the other hand, it is set to a solid red when the RM is set as secondary. I have read the manual and there are only two expected behavior for the "PRI" LED indicator, green if it is set as the primary and off if it is secondary. Does someone encountered this scenario already?

P.S. The RM does not have any minor/major faults when accessed. The status indicator indicates "PRIM" when the affected module is set as primary and "SYNC" when set as secondary. Manual switchover between controllers are done and was successful.

Thanks in advance!

RIValencia

Import RSLogix 5000 offline tags to FactoryTalk View ME

I tried to import offline tags created in RSLogix 5000 to FT View ME. Basically what I did was create a shortcut using the RSLinx Enterprise in my FT View ME designating the ACD file I need to use. When this was done, I could see the offline tags in the Tag Browser. However, all I can find are the tags contained in Controller Tags of the ACD program. But I need to use the program tags contained in different task routines for my HMI displays. Please can somebody figure out a way for me so that I can find the program tags in the task routines as well? Your help is much appreciated!!!

Sending a single parameter from PF525 to ML1100

I have a Powerflex 525 communicating with a Micrologix 1100 over Ethernet.  I can start, stop, and control the speed of the drive just fine.  I would also like to read other parameters into the PLC like Current and Fault Code.  How do I send a single parameter that isn't part of the "N41" files?

Remote Access to CompactLogix PLC

Can the PlC be accessed remotely.

If I hook the CompactLogix L32E up to the internet WAN, would it be possible for an engineer to access and make changes to the program remotely?? Or does it have to be done onsite through the LAN.

Interview Question

I am currently acting as my plants' maintenance supervisor. As such, will be involved in conducting interviews to fill a Tech Level 2 position which requires a basic level of PLC knowledge and troubleshooting ability. While we don't require a formal test, I would like to ask a few technical questions to gauge the candidate's overall technical knowledge. The one PLC related question I came up with was this:

"There is an error in the following logic, can you identify it and how would you fix it?" Then I would show them a printout of the logic(attached below) that I wrote specifically for this question. If they get stumped I will offer the hint "The problem is that the motor will not stop running, even when all operating conditions that should make it stop are met".

My concern is with the difficulty level of the question. Since I came up with the problem the solution is obvious to me. I don't have anyone else in the plant to run this by because the existing crew are mostly old school mechanics with little to no electrical or PLC experience. I'm not so much concerned with the "correct" answer as I am with getting a feel for how they approach a problem. For example, it stumped on of our engineers who claims to know ladder logic programming but instead of admitting it he tried to BS his way through it saying that the logic didn't make any sense at all and there had to be another routine that I wasn't showing him. That is not the answer I am looking for.

So what do you guys think? Is this an appropriate question to ask of someone who would be asked to troubleshoot logic from time to time or is it too much?

Good afternoon,

I will be installing RS Logix v.20.04 in order to fix the minor revision issues with 20.01 and 20.03. Will I have to update the firmware on the PLCs and re-download the program? Also, is there anything else I should take note of before installing 20.04? Thanks!
