Understanding MSO Instructions

Hello everyone,

I am new to the blog and this is my first post. I have taken on a new job and I do a lot more with plc's then I have ever done before. Question is, I have a machine that had a similar but wrong program downloaded into it before I hired on. I kept getting the ER bit on the MSO Instruction for the servo motor for axis 1 & 2. After going through the instruction I changed in the Homing tab the mode from Passive to Active and I can now run my Servo motor. Few questions would be that I have no clue the difference between Active and Passive and why this got rid of the ER bit on the MSO instruction allowing me to run.

just so you know the difference between the two machines is the one I was working on the servo motor had a two plug setup (guess is motor power cable and built in encoder cable. While the program came from a machine with a three cable hookup. The three cable is a added on encoder I believe( if it is a added on encoder why still hook up to the built in encoder)? on the other hand the 3 cable hookup I have had no problem with and that machine has run fine. Like stated before the three cable hookup was downloaded to the machine with a two cable hookup. Hope this message is clear and not to confusing. thanks

1747-SN relates programming question

Gents!  I do not have the time to scan thousands of prior transactions related to the scanner module.  My question actually has to do with programming related TO the scanner but NOT ABOUT the scanner.

I have a Panelmate Power Series 5000 touchscreen I am translating to another brand of touchscreen.  The touchscreen connects to a remote 5/04 via the scanner's network.  Some of the indicators in the touchscreen use data from the remote PLC.  My question is: what does the following lamp tag mean?

S:15 = 2819 * QMS, N7:12/0 + S:15 = 2820 * QMS, N7:20/0

I LOOKS like I need to fetch the remote bits N7:12/0 and N7:20/0, then AND them together to yield an ON or OFF state.

Here is one related to a numerical display:

S:15 - 2819 * QMS, N7:17 + S:15 = 2820 * QMS, N7:25

THIS one looks like I need to add two values together.

"QMS" is the name of the remote 5/04 PLC.  I know that S:15 is an address-relates value in the 5/04 CPU

What are the answers? (While awaiting your wisdom, I will assume that my guess is correct and move forward.)

1756-OA16 I.FuseBlown bits

Hi there,

I'm using an AC output module (OA16) and I noticed the FuseBlown input word (Local:13:I.FuseBlown) in my controller tags, which I've never noticed before, and I don't quite understand what the bits represent. I am familiar with the I.FuseBlown status word for a 1756-OB16E output module, for example. Each of the first 16 bits represents an electronic fuse for the corresponding output has "blown".

The user manual for digital I/O says that, for the OA16, each of the 2 groups of outputs (0-7 & 8-15) is fused internally. However, I can't figure out how the actual FuseBlown bits work for this module.

Does I.FuseBlown.0 = Group 0 (outputs 0-7), or Output 0?
If the Group 0 fuse blows, are the first 8 FuseBlown bits (0-7) set to 1s?
Or is FuseBlown.0 for Group 0, and FuseBlown.1 for Group 1?

Thanks!

Problems opening a file in studio5000

Hello everyone,

I have had to work on a new machine lately. I have the program on file in my laptop under Studio5000. When trying to just open the program if faults saying that( Logix Designer support for this revision is not installed: To open this project you must: Cancel and install Logix Designer support for firmware revision 20.01: Change the controller's revision and/or type in the project.) the controller I am trying to connect to is a CompactLogix5332E, type 1769-L32E. With Studio5000 I don't even have that option to choose that controller. So how is this project in Studio5000 when that controller in not even a option and studio5000 revisions start at 21. Any help is appreciated

Thanks,

Hello everyone,

I have recently started a new job and it turns out to be pretty heavy on the PLC's. The company uses about 6 different brands of PLC's and I have been doing ok at the job but I'm a little bit struggling to learn all this fast enough? Is there any online PLC classes/training that anyone would recommend? I have used PLC programs in the past to just troubleshoot now I'm being ask to write programs. I know this is a big opportunity to jump my career, I just want to succeed at it. Thanks

Device Level Ring Object Class 0x47

Hi

I have a MSG instruction which checks the status of the DLR network which I have attached as an Image below

Message Type - CIP Generic

Class 47 ,Attribute 0,Instance 1,The destination element is a SINT[57] called Services_DLR

My question is, how do I interpret the results.  For example Services_DLR[1] is the network status, but I have seen a value of 0 when the ring is okay but I have also seen values of 1 and 4 and don't know what they mean. I assume 1 means ring fault but I do not know what 4 means etc.

or  The last active IP goes to Services_DLR[17] but I would not of known this, only the code was wrote by someone else. (Image attached)

On page 189 of https://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/um/20comm-um015_-en-p.pdf I can see the DLR object but I dont know how this populates my SINT array or what each element is for so if someone could explain or point me to some documentation that can explain it to me, i would greatly appreciate it

Hope I made myself clear, I am new to PLC programming so just looking for some guidance

SLC-500 Power Supply Short?

$

Anyone have experience with the old SLC-500s?

I have one machine that is about 13 years old and I think they used a new old stock SLC-05/04 when they built it.

Anyway I had a battery error, which makes sense since the battery was very old, and I lost my program when I tried to replace it, which makes sense because the capacitor which is supposed to hold the charge is very old.

When I tried to re-download the program to the PLC, I could not connect, I realized my issue now was no null modem... and my driver not working on my RS-232 to USB converter.

My question is:  What is the port above the DB-9 port used for?

It was labeled PROG, so when my DB-9 serial cable didn't work I tried a serial cable for a mitsubishi FX series on the top port... and.... my power supply died.

Is this a common thing on SLC-500 power supplies?

Can you short them by using the wrong cable?

The weird thing is the fuse on the front was not blown.

Is there a fuse inside I can get to and replace?

We are planning on just keeping this machine a few more years so we don't want to upgrade it.

The CPU was fine afterwards.

MonitoringServoMotorTemperature

Is there a way to monitor the Temperature of a Servo Motor on Allen Bradley Servo motors... MPL?

PLC: CompactLogix 1769-L30ERM

Drive: Kinetix 6500

Motors: MPL-B310P-MJ72AA, and  MPL-B560F-MJ72AA

I would like to be able to monitor the temperature, and flash a warning screen on the HMI if the Motor gets too hot, or perhaps shut down the operation before the Motor overload trips.

The drive and PLC are connected through Ethernet IP

What I don’t know is if that Motor heatsink temperature information is available to the PLC.

hello

I'm going to establish communication between Contrologix L62 controller rack with SLC rack using DH+/RIO and 1747 ASB adapter.
SW1,SW2, SW3  are configured  as follow:

11111111
11011010
01101011
in Rslogix5000 project all is well (no errors),
in the SLC chassis, PAR ("Partial RIO Communication") is displayed.
I ask if I missed something to configure,

1769 SDN device net scanner does not supply voltage to the network

Hello forum!

I'm using AB Compactlogix 1769 L35E CPU energized by 1769-PA2 power supply which is also supplying to 1769-SDN DeviceNet scanner, both via backplane. Trying to build a simply DN network connecting the scanner to a Balluff BNI DNT-104-000-Z004, which is a 16 PNP digital input block, since is only input module I rely that no extra power supply will be required.

The problem is that when connecting both scanner and input block via my DN thick cable (Balluff BCC07YY), the input module does not energize. In fact I got no voltage reading when measuring voltage between scanner V+ and V- terminals. I measured voltage at 1769-PA2 power supply DC output (which is not in use) and its providing 24VDC, also scanner is powered on so I do not think the problem could be power supply nor backplane.

Scanner display shows 92 number, scanner manual says that 92 error is "no devicenet power" and has the following description:

No network power detected on DeviceNet port. Provide network power. Make sure the module drop cable is providing the proper power to the DeviceNet port.

Which I do not get, is not the power supply from 1769-PA2 via backplane enough?

Is not the scanner supposed to provide voltage to the network?

I've no grounding connection connected to PE yet (just between devices GND terminals)... is that a problem for testing this small network? It will be done soon but now I'm waiting for cable material.

Actually I'm online using Studio5000 and have 1769-SDN DeviceNet scanner device declared at the project, there is no warning nor major fault displayed from the software.

Thanks for reading.

I am using P_AIn Analog Input function blogs and displaying the data on HMI using standard FactoryTalk faceplate.

I need to change the Engineering Units displayed on the faceplate from the default % to others ("H2O, psi, etc).

I know they are specified in Cfg_EU but I can not find this tag in my instruction.

Where do I make this change?

Setting up Compact to work with Yaskawa VFD over Ethernet

$

Hello everyone,

To get straight to it, I have done simple programming with digital inputs and outputs but I have never programmed a PLC to VFD over Ethernet. I start to mess with it a bit and found out how to setup a Powerflex drive over the Ethernet, which was a lot easier then I thought it would be, but to make things more difficult they are wanting Allen Bradley PLC's with Yaskawa VDF's. I have no clue how to set this up over the Ethernet. Thanks again.
