Hi all, I am trying to control and/or read values from Schneider Altivar12 VFDs. Via Modbus on a AB Micro850 PLC (using the Connected Components Workbench Software). There seems to be two ways to do this with the Micro850, either with messaging (using the msg_modbus instruction function block) or with the Modbus mapping feature. I have a list of the communication parameters (see attached fileATV12_Communication_parameters_BBV51917_1.4IE05b.xls ATV32 Communication parameters_a1.2ie03.xls) But I haven't had any experience with Modbus and I am not having any success. There is not very much documentation about how to do this, If anyone can help me who has done this or knows how to do it I would appreciate it.

Program lamp to flash error code
As I am a noob this is probably a noob question. I have a machine with a micro 1400 and if the machine has a fault or jams it lights it's "machine fault" lamp. The fault can be triggered by one of 8 prox switches not getting made within a certain time span. There is nothing to indicate which one. I'd like to program the lamp to, rather than stay on steady, have a blink pattern to indicate which prox caused the fault condition. 3 blinks and a pause, then repeat for PROX 3 for example.
I have searched for this with no joy. Thanks - Jon
How to compare 2 identical scanned values in Micrologix 1400 PLC
I want to compare 2 identical scanned values in Allen Bradley Micrologix 1400 PLC. What are the instructions required to do that?
Unusual results copying bits..
I am making an Add-on instruction, containing the rungs in the attached picture.
It works, it puts the bits where I thing they should go, until reelBits[98]. after that point nothing seems to be copied.
CrData is I/O to the add-on, and is an array of 8 INTs
reelBits is an internal array of 128 BOOLs
idx variables are all internal INTs
Any ideas?
Micrologix "advanced" programming help
Hi everyone -
I have been programming for several years. I learned how to program using a SLC150! Currently I am using Micrologix 1000 PLC's and plan on shifting to the 1100's when they stop making the 1000. I had an electrical background so I looked at programming from that point of view. How can I turn relays into ladder logic. This got me by for several years. I learned what I needed to learn and that was it.
Now I am getting into more serious applications. I want to use a Micrologix 1100 to communicate with a Kinetix 300 Servo drive and a Powerflex 525 drive over Ethernet. There is a program done by AB that does everything for you. It's great and it works but it makes me realize that my PLC knowledge only scratched the surface! I never learned things like "long words", advantages/disadvantages of latch relays, advantages of using "symbols", and many many other things.
Here is my question. Is there a book, video, website, etc that I can use to learn some of this more advanced stuff that I should have learned 20 years ago?

Panel View 1000 Plus: application password reset
I have this panel view 1000 plus with accounts enabled but customer forgot the app password. I have both the executable and source file. Can I retrieve the password from any of both files? Can accessing configuration mode help disabling security to enter new passwords?
Having the files, what is the best way of retake control over this application?
I am not experienced on AB equipment, but have general experience on automation. I have access to Factory Talk View.

How to copy the production Data from PLC, Having FActorytalk View ME Edition, Not SE !
Hi guys,
I am thinking about copying the production data from the PLC to Excel every hour, Weekly, which will be helpful for our Management team in the company. So I am confused right now how I am going to do it, because I don't use the FTV SE Edition, I have ME Edition. So I don't have the VBA or VB.Net programming help to copy. So can anyone tell me is there any way to do it? It will be really great and will really appreciate if anyone can guide me through the process. Thank you very much.

How can I measure time delays on the network with a PLC code
Hi everyone,
I would like to create a PLC code using RSlogix 5000 program in order to measure time delays on the network. Can anyone help me to do this?
Thanks.
How should I go about doing an 8 hour timer?
Didnt know this before but should have anticipated it, I cant put 8 hours into say a TON or a TOF, etc. Only goes up to 2880 seconds, .8 of an hour. What would be the best way to go about this?
Cloning SSD With RSLogix 500/FTA Installed?
so, i have a 120gb ssd in my laptop and i just bought a 250gb msata ssd for it and i would like to just clone the existing drive onto the new one; then use the new one to boot from, save new files to etc. Leave the 120gb ssd in the laptop and if anything were to ever happen with the 250gb msata ssd, i would have a full backup of my programs, files, etc and HOPEFULLY set myself up to have little to no downtime if a catastrophic issue were to ever arise. My question is will that mess with the rockwell software that i have installed on the rive currently? I changed the name of the computer a few weeks back, to something a little more grownup since i now use this thing at work on a network that others can see, and i had to do something there to rehost FTA so that it would work again. Hopefully something like that doesnt need to happen again.
Edit Array Data from HMI
I have a new application I am planning out. In this case I have created an array of 100 elements (the array is made up of UDTs). So basically a table to hold data. The first 10 elements I have populated with data from inside Logix 5000 using the Tag Editor tab. The array (table) will hold data for my production parts. I expect that I will periodically want to add new parts or edit existing parts in the table. My question is in regard to if I can do this from an HMI (ie: Panel View Plus). In particular, can you add new records to the array through the HMI or do you need to go back into the software and edit the array tags directly?
Thanks
Array of data
Hello everybody I really need help on understanding an array of data in logix5000 everything from creating them, dimensions, how to use them ect...anything and everything will help I have read the Rockwell literature on it but their explanations are a little confusing to understand I have gone through this forum and I found good knowledge but a lot of you guys are using it at a higher level than I am.. I have never worked with an array and want to start so I can get in that next level...
Thank you for your time it will be much appreciated

PLC control of Work Instructions
I have a request from a customer to coordinate the process steps (assembly process) with the operator electronic work instruction display. This company does not have any MES or other work instruction display system. Therefore, I am wanting to know if there is a reasonable method to use a PLC output bit (or message) to open a file on a PC (such as a word or power point). Possibly even to advance the power point slide when triggered by the PLC. My feeling is that this not a robust PLC function, but I am researching the potential just in case. Any thoughts you have are appreciated.
Request to Print ACD to PDF
Hello,
I currently don't have RSLogix, but I do need to read the ladder logic on the attached ACD file. Specifically the project names Air Compressor Management (or something similar to that). If someone could print this for me and send it to me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Jose
OPC Servers
Does anyone have a recommendation for an OPC server to connect to an AB compact Logix? RS Links, KepServer, and Matrikon seem like the popular ones (I assume they are expensive and paid for by license). I only need to manage a few Tags and I want to keep the cost down. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Needing some help with communication with PanelView 600 and SLC 5/05
Equipment:
PanelView 600
Allen Bradley SLC 5/05
1747 PIC
Windows Vista PC
So to start off i'll give a quick rundown of what i'm doing and why. I'm currently in a community college finishing up my courses for my computer and electronics engineering degrees and one of my current courses is introduction to PLCs. I've only had this class for a couple weeks and have blazed past the rest of my class so my instructor put me up to figuring out how to get the communication setup on a PanelView 600. Now from what I understand it was setup in the past before he started teaching and since then they haven't managed to get the communication straightened out. It's using an Allen Bradley SLC 5/05 via Ethernet and from that PLC through the RS232 port it's connected to a 1747 PIC which then connects to the PanelView 600. Now keep in mind this is my first PLC course, I haven't messed with panelviews or Allen Bradley PLCs before so i'm not really prepared to tackle this to begin with. After figuring out how to make a basic program with PanelBuilder32 and ensuring there are no errors I attempted to download the program... and this is where I get stumped. The PanelView is using protocol DH-485 and from what i'd assume and have read on forums, the communication needs to be setup through RSLinx Network using the 1747 PIC Driver but on our PCs that driver isn't available. From what I can find on other forums that driver is suppose to be included with RSLinx but even after reinstalling the program it still isn't there. I won't be back in this class again until Monday but if anybody has any tips or suggestions then please let me know. I appreciate everyone's help and feedback, Thanks.
